New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart ’09 served as commencement speaker. The University also presented Dr. Merle Harris ’64, ’73 with an honorary degree. Dr. Harris is a former member of the CSCU Board of Regents and served as interim president of CCSU.

January 22, 2020 Welcome to the Huang Center CCSU opened its newest addition on campus, the C.J. Huang Recreation Center, on the first day of the Spring semester. As President Toro opened the new facility, hundreds of onlookers waited to explore the building, which features three ball courts (above), exercise and fitness areas, an elevated wellness track, studio space for group fitness classes, multipurpose activity rooms, and more.

March 21, 2019 Welcome to Bassett Hall CCSU is home to the latest addition to the Connecticut Freedom Trail now that the former Social Sciences Hall has been named after Ebenezer D. Bassett, the first African American to graduate from the university in 1853 when CCSU was the State Normal School. A crowd of local and state dignitaries and longtime supporters of the naming initiative filled the first floor of Bassett Hall for the March 20 naming ceremony. Among them was Todd Levine (above, right) from the state Historic Preservation Office, who presented President Zulma R. Toro (center) and Bassett Memorialization Committee Chair William Fothergill (left) with the plaque that will identify Bassett Hall as the 140th site on the Freedom Trail. February 21, 2019 The finishing touch University officials, state and local dignitaries, and members of the campus community celebrated the completion of the new Willard-DiLoreto complex with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Feb. 20. Among the guests was Carol A. Ammon '73 after whom the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is named. The two-year, $63 million project gutted and renovated the Willard and DiLoreto classroom buildings and added a connecting atrium. Student services are now centralized in the atrium section of the complex.

Workshops took place at various locations on campus, and later in the day all students were invited to perform on the Welte stage in a free, adjudicated concert.
