Legislative breakfast brings state leaders to campus

Central hosted a breakfast on Feb. 27 to update state leaders on campus initiatives and strategic developments. President Zulma R. Toro and members of Central’s faculty and staff highlighted special campus projects for Representatives Mike Demicco, Gary Turco, and Francis Cooley, who all sit on the legislature’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee.

Campus leadership shared insights about the university’s recent successful partnerships with local businesses and industries, and two students also talked with legislators about their experiences at Central. The group later toured the XR Lab at the Applied Innovation Hub at Central, a new facility on campus.

CSCU President Terrence Cheng also attended and briefed the group on CSCU 2030, a proposed generational investment in Connecticut’s public colleges and universities. CSCU 2030 seeks investment through state appropriations to fund student support and wrap-around services; innovative and expanded academic programs; updates to technology in laboratories and classrooms; and college affordability.
