Central’s BS in Computer Science- Honors prepares students for a wide variety of exciting careers. Students earn a broad range of critical skills in software development, computer security, networking, databases, artificial intelligence, and many more.

The Computer Science- Honors major is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. Accredited programs must meet or exceed standards for faculty, curriculum, laboratory and computing resources, students, and institutional support.

Students acquire deep technical, computer science skills and work with their advisor to select courses that can set the stage for graduate study or employment in any technical or professional area.

Career Preparation

The program prepares students to work in a variety of settings including software engineering, cybersecurity, web and cloud systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, and computational modeling.

They are well suited for exciting positions such as, software developer, web developer, software engineer, database administrator, security analyst, and data scientist.

Frequently, graduates leave campus with employment offers from leading companies including AETNA, U?nited Technologies, Cigna, and Travelers

Academic Department

As a CS student at Central, I gained many competitive skills and valuable knowledge in software engineering, such as agile development, web development, etc. Throughout my years at CCSU, I gained a good theoretical background in Computer Science, especially in data structures and algorithms. During my senior year, I received many employment opportunities, and today I am a happy software developer at Optum.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Graduates will apply a broad understanding of the fundamental theories, concepts, and applications of computer science in their career.
    1. (ABET SO-1) Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
    2. (ABET SO-2) Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
    3. (ABET SO-6) Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.
